Not-so-mellow next to the yellow

Central Station | 11 Sep 2018

In recent years, bright yellow has become a favorite color of many in Hong Kong, particularly the young and hip crowd.

And there's no missing the Kam Ning Building in Sham Shui Po, as it stands out like a beacon within the residential area it sits in.

It's located next to Man Fung Building, which is considered one of the most renowned pieces of street art in Hong Kong. As part of the city-wide street art festival HKWalls in 2016, Spanish street artist Okuda San Miguel transformed the 20-year-old residential building with his mural "Rainbow Thief." The artist covered the entire facade of the narrow building in his signature colorful geometric structures and patterns, which form a rainbow-colored, three-dimensional animal.

As Sham Shui Po gets a big tourism push, it's good to recognize the many shades of this colorful and historical district.
