Probing legislators shunted off main lineCentral Station | 13 Jul 2018
Lawmakers are fuming at being derailed by top government and MTR Corp people avoiding a scandal-chasing legislative panel meeting today.
Their aim was to learn who knew what about concrete-set steel bars in platform-strengthening work in a new section of Hung Hom Station on the Sha Tin to Central Rail Link being cut shorter than specifications dictated.
The Subcommittee on Matters Relating to Railways has organized a special meeting to discuss a situation that involves a variety of people, including contractors and subcontractors as well as MTRC managers and executives.
The people who panel members wanted to see in the meeting but almost certainly will not includes Secretary for Transport and Housing Frank Chan Fan, MTRC chief Lincoln Leong Kwok-kuen and managing director Philco Wong Nai-keung.
Civic Party lawmaker Tanya Chan says she doesn't have the faintest idea why the big names will not attend, though she suspects they agreed to dodge the meeting. "It's an insult to legislators and residents," she declared.
