Michael Owen crypto coin rolling outCentral Station | Joyce Chen 22 Mar 2018
Former Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid star scorer Michael Owen is launching a cryptocurrency in his name.
The ex-England footballer unveiled the Owen Coin plan in Hong Kong yesterday, linking with the Singapore-based Global Crypto Offering Exchange.
While the kick-off schedule for sales has yet to be announced, it's planned to get the token ball rolling at US$10 (HK$78) apiece. "Fans can be connected to favorite celebrities on a much more intimate level," said Owen, 38, doing his own connecting by giving away five autographed balls.
For celebrity tokens like his will allow fans to buy merchandise like training videos, donate to charities and interact with a hero via live streaming.
