HKTVN online shopping platforms grow

Hong Kong Television Network (1137) yesterday said the average number of orders on its online shopping platforms, namely HKTVmall and HoKoBuy, was 7,600 last month, with an average value of HK$537.

The average for September, October and November, was 6,000, 6,900 and 7,400 respectively, while average value for the corresponding months was cited at HK$492, HK$464 and HK$527, according to a stock exchange filing.

In 2017, the two online malls served more than 477,000 customers, chairman Ricky Wong Wai-kay said at a media briefing.

Meanwhile, it announced the launch of an e-commerce incubation program, aiming to help youngsters and local small enterprises to expand online retailing.

THE BASE, with an area of 20,000 square feet at Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, will provide work space, shooting and post-processing equipment, and e-commerce and multimedia workshops. Recent graduates from media-related disciplines with less than eight years' work experience, YouTubers with more than 5,000 subscribers or key opinion leaders with over 2,000 followers, and partners of HKTV small merchant e-commerce partnerships, can use THE BASE for free.

Wong said the company has been waiting a long time for the approval of free-to-air TV license and it will not take on new TV business at this stage.

He also said the three-year experience in operating HKTVmall led him to believe the city needs an online shopping platform which is "trustworthy" and "all-inclusive."

To improve the effectiveness at its warehouse, Wong said an auto facility costing HK$140 million will be introduced to help deal with 35,000 orders a day and speed up delivery service.
