Internet giant Tencent and local developer New World have teamed up to set up at the latter's KOHO office building in Kwun Tong a culture and innovation center that will help cultivate local multimedia talents.
New World Development will provide working space at KOHO, featuring a performance venue and professional equipment.
Tencent unit Makerspace, which nurtures high-tech start-ups in the mainland, will undertake the project in Hong Kong, marking its first overseas expansion.
In the mainland, Makerspace has a presence in 25 cities, where it has assisted more than 100 start-ups, including three "unicorn" and five listed companies.
NWD executive vice chairman Adrian Cheng, an arts and culture patron, will serve as president. He attended Tencent's Global Partner Conference on Wednesday in Chengdu.
