Village pub restaurant beats the worldCentral Station | 13 Oct 2017
A village pub in England has been named the world's best restaurant in a poll organized by the leading travel website TripAdvisor.
The Black Swan at Oldstead on the edge of the North York Moors, near Thirsk, has a Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes, and won the title based on customer reviews on TripAdvisor.
It is the first time a British restaurant has won the title since the annual award was launched six years ago. The Black Swan, which is family-owned, beat Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck and Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir.
The Black Swan is run by Britain's youngest Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks, who won the accolade four years ago at the age of 24, and his brother James.
Martin Berasategui in Spain has held the Travellers' Choice Favourite Fine Dining Restaurants Worldwide poll title since 2015.
The top restaurant in Asia was David's Kitchen in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
TripAdvisor said the awards differed from others as they were based on feedback from guests, not a judging panel.
