Thailand joins Viu countries

Business | Dominique Nguy 18 May 2017

Over-the-top video service Viu was launched by PCCW Media in Thailand yesterday, providing viewers in that country with Asian content including dramas and variety shows from South Korea and Japan that carry Thai subtitles.

Viu now operates in 15 markets, including Singapore, Malaysia and India along with Hong Kong.

Viu had chalked up more than 820,000 fans on its Thailand Facebook page months before the launch, PCCW Media Group managing director Janice Lee noted.

"As Thailand is one of the most highly internet-penetrated markets, with millennials who are very receptive to online video viewing and digital advertisements, we expect Viu Thailand to mirror the success we are having in other Asian markets with healthy growth in subscriptions and ad revenue," she added.
