Chinese Manufacturers' Association president Eddy Li Sau-hung said Beijing is of great strategic significance in brand promotion and one of the most effective platforms for Hong Kong brands to enter the national market.
Brand Development Council chairman Simon Wong Ka-wo said the project has received HK$5 million from the government and the council and association have together put in more than HK$800,000.
The Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo held in Beijing during the festival will occupy a floor area of about 130,000 square feet, with about 300 brands.
Association vice president Tony Tai Chak-leung said the loss this year for holding the expo is as much as HK$5 million, compared with a HK$300,000 loss at the Macau expo last year.
"It was due to the higher payout in hall rents, security guards and cleaners in Beijing," said Tai.
