Swire Properties (1972) unveiled plan to revamp the tenant mix for its shopping mall in Tai Koo - Cityplaza.

The developer said 12 new stores will be opening in the first half next year, included nine new eateries spanning a range of cuisines.

Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill, which closed its branch in Pacific Place in April, was one of the nine eateries opening a store in Cityplaza.

Other new eateries include Hokkaidon, Passion by Gerald Dubois, b. yourself cafe and The Night Market, among others.

"We're very proud to break a record as the popular destination on Hong Kong island to house so many delicious eateries - 70 in total," said Aileen Chan, general manager of Cityplaza.

Meanwhile, Cityplaza's UA Cinema will be closing in February next year. The void will be filled by Broadway Cinema's new concept branch MOViE MOViE, which comprises six wide screen houses and a well-furnished VIP house. The developer said the new cinema will also serve as a venue for film festivals, lifestyle workshops and cultural events.

Chan said the new cinema is expected to open before summer next year.

Despite challenges in the retail market, Chan said Cityplaza has recorded increases in both foot traffic in the past few months.

She believes the mall's foot traffic will continue to go up with the injection of the new elements next year.

Chan was optimistic about next year's retail market and will look into to adding more experience elements and services to the mall so as to attract more families and new customers.

A Japanese cooking school ABC Cooking Studio will also be opening its largest studio in Hong Kong at Cityplaza by May 2017 so as to encourage the enjoyment of cooking.

Also, a new foodhall TREATS have been launched that offers two dine-in restaurants and eight kiosks.

A pop-up kiosk has been launched there featuring Michelin recommended restaurants with the first one well- known for its snake soup.
