Students take slow lane with winning sol-ar carCentral Station | 4 May 2016
A team from the University of Hong Kong has driven off with the Champion Award and the Innovative Design Award at the New Energy New Generation solar car competition held by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.
The 16-student team, named Helios, produced a car equipped with 10 solar panels that can travel for 100 kilometres on a full charge and at speeds of up to 20 kilometers per hour.
It was one of eight teams from five local universities in the competition held in January.
One of the supervisors of the six- month project, HKU assistant professor Paddy Chan Kwok-leung, said the lack of time was one of the biggest challenges.
Their public exhibition will be held during the annual Joint University Programmes Admissions System information week at HKU on Tuesday.
