In the article "Travel agents take to the streets as airlines plan to slash commission" (The Standard, June 24), the agents warned they may be forced to charge travelers fees to make up for the loss of income.
Many agents are already overcharging customers on the amount they collect on behalf of the airlines for airport and security charges.
Para 2 If the airlines need to collect around HK$1,000, some agents quote HK$1,500 to HK$2,000. The fees vary with every travel agent. That is how many travel agents are fleecing customers and there is no regulation to stop them.
Even if the Consumer Council does expose their game, as it has been exposing various such schemes, the govern Para 2.2 Line 0.2 ment does nothing to follow up to protect consumers.
