Domestic crude output tipped to reach 189m tonnes in 2008

Monday, December 29, 2008

China is expected to produce a total of 189 million tonnes of crude oil in 2008, an increase of 1.6 percent over last year, state media reported.

PetroChina, the nation's leading oil producer, released figures saying China had found more than 20.7 billion tonnes of proven oil deposits in the past 30 years, Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.

PetroChina measures its output in tonnes instead of the US standard of barrels. The Daqing Oil Field in the northeast and the Shengli Oil Field on the east coast account for most of the country's oil production.

China is also expected to produce 76 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2008, up from 69.8 billion cubic meters last year, the report said.
