Deptford on the Rise

As the extension of the UK government's Help to Buy scheme aims to provide financial help to those unable to afford a home, it will have a direct effect on the mid to low end of the country's property market.

Boroughs such as Greenwich, Lewisham, Bromley and Croydon have become a focus for the city's commitment to regeneration, and with their good transport infrastructure and relatively low price points, they are already beginning to draw the attention of both local and international buyers.

Between now and 2020 these areas will face increasing demand for new homes from such buyers, but the undersupply situation is so significant, with no end in sight, that price growth across the southeast is inevitable.

With the expectation on Outer London to outperform in terms of price growth, one area that discerning buyers should not miss is Deptford, noted by many as the "new Shoreditch" south of the river.

Rich with art galleries, cafes and boutique shops, this town's popularity is growing among young professionals and the creative industry. A local artist, Paul Marx, said, "There's a very strong artist community in Deptford and an annual art festival which brings everyone in the area together."

"It's got such a diverse community which is what's so nice about it - there are all sorts of different age groups," said Morag Myerscough, a key artist who took part in the transformation of the Deptford community as a designer involved in the Deptford Project.

Deptford residents
enjoy excellent transport links, with London Bridge just 6 minutes from Deptford rail station, while Canary Wharf is only 14 minutes from the DLR station at Deptford Bridge.

Emerging to take pride of place among the community space of Deptford is RISE, a high-quality residential project developed by Cathedral Group and designed by world- renowned architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

Part of the wider Deptford Project, RISE features 115 apartments, most with balconies, and six penthouses, with private roof terraces. The development represents a stylishly sympathetic addition to the creative atmosphere of SE8.

The apartments at RISE are designed for both style and comfort. High- specification mingles with creative energy in modern homes that reflect the new London they look out across.

Seated directly above Deptford rail station and close to Deptford Bridge for the DLR, RISE is at the centre of a well- connected residential neighbourhood that is still improving, as demonstrated by the new Waitrose that's just a short walk away.

This is an area whose combination of vibrant community, excellent infrastructure and great value prices will be hard to resist for any UK property investor.
