The mainland has devised a new scheme in its battle against corruption sending out mobile phone text messages offering enticing rewards for information.
Some 730,000 China Mobile users in Chongqing have received the SMS advisory, which dangles rewards of 3,000 to 500,000 yuan (HK$3,420 to HK$570,000) to people to rat out crooked public service officials. "It is really a fresh way to reach citizens instead of posting a notice on the website," said IT engineer Wang Ling.
Calls have flooded in to a hotline over the past couple of weeks, including several valuable reports of unsavory activities that are being probed. Corrupt officials must be having sleepless nights. *Underset by 4 lines.* *Underset by 4 lines.*
