Scoot for star hopes

Thursday, June 05, 2008

A fear of modern-day pirates is stopping action film star Jackie Chan Kong-sang from hitting it big in his dealership for the Segway scooter.

Segways owners will not let him assemble the two-wheel battery-powered vehicle in the mainland. Theyre afraid of people stealing the technology, Chan said at an expo in Wan Chai.

Chan is not, of course, selling Segways for the money, but because they offer clean technology and are so cool.

He and his partner Matt McGuire hope to sell 600 to 1,000 Segways in China this year, with a basic version costing about 70,000 yuan (HK$78,770).

To sell more, much more, all Chan has to do is dance with the Segway in one of his next choreographed action scenes on the big screen.
