Many people feel Philippine President Benigno Aquino should have just kept silent - or flashed his now trademark smile - when asked to comment on whether he should have answered that urgent phone call at the height of the deadly bus hijacking last month.Instead he said Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen should have stuck to protocol in trying to contact him.
"It is not always possible to [come to the phone and answer] all those who call [and say] they are this certain person," he said yesterday.
"Let us say, a governor in the Philippines demands to speak to US President Barack Obama or Chinese President Hu Jintao. They also would not be allowed to speak to the US or the Chinese [president] just like that."
The nightmare never ends.
