etary for Administration Anson Chan Fang On-sang still tops
the popularity rating among Hong Kong's 10 most prominent political
figures, both before and after Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa extended
her tenure to June 2002.
According to the latest opinion poll conducted by the Social Sciences
Research Centre of the University of Hong Kong, Mrs Chan was trailed
closely by Financial Secretary Sir Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, while Mr
Tung has climbed from sixth to fourth.
In this month's survey, Mrs Chan scored 69.5 points out of a possible
100. In the March survey, she received 69.6 points.
In a poll carried out in December last year, Mrs Chan still topped the
ratings with 66.4 points. Sir Donald polled 61.1 points in the
December survey and 69.3 points in March before dropping to 66.9
points this month.
Mr Tung's support rating has been lower than that of Mrs Chan and Sir
Donald. In the December survey, he received 58.2 points, ranking
sixth. In last month's poll, he got 60.3 points. For April, Mr Tung
ranked fourth, scoring 58.9 points.
