inger takes Hong Kong by storm
J
APANESE singer and actress Noriko Sakai was recently in Hong Kong to
hold a concert called Work Out Fine in the new extension of the Hong
Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Noriko, 27, has many fans, particularly young males from Taiwan, Hong
Kong and Japan. This is her third visit to Hong Kong.
During the concert she sang a Mandarin song and told the audience that
she thought her Putonghua is better than her Cantonese.
When she touched down at the airport there were 20 bodyguards looking
after her as fans swarmed her.

The concert wasn't the same as the production of local singers, as she
sang one hit after another without the break. She changed her outfit
four times and there were no background dancers.
Stars and music
HEINEKEN held their third annual concert, Music Horizons over the
weekend featuring stars like Sammi Cheng, Boyz II Men and Julian
Lennon.
Cheng was the first artist to come on stage and sang a mix of slow and
fast songs, some Cantonese and some Putonghua. She also sang excerpts
from her Mandarin Album Worth It. When she was on stage, Cheng wore
all black with white runners, white patches on her shirt and a long
coat.
To create more of an atmosphere, she went out and bought crackers so
that when they were pulled, lots of string flew out. But officials
didn't let her use it so she left them at home.
She has just signed two advertising contracts, one for make-up, the
other for ice-cream.
Then Lennon came out and at the end he sang Stand By Me and everyone
was so excited that they sang along.
Boyz II Men then took the stage and started out with some up-tempo
songs and before moving on to I'll Make Love to You, then they
gathered roses and handed them out to the audience. The group put on a
few moves on the dance floor and received the best reception from the
crowd. Many artists went to see the show including Leo Ku, Karen Mok,
Maggie Q and Alex To.
