Asia's richest man Li Ka-shing took out a full-page advertisement to thank those who served the Heart of Gold Hospice Service program.

Li, chairman of the foundation that bears his name, established the program in 2007, along with the Hospital Authority, to provide care and relief for 27,000 terminally ill cancer patients.

"Hospice care gives comfort and hope where only anguish and sorrow are apparent, we must encourage such meaningful work and offer help where it is needed," Li said.

The foundation has donated more than HK$126 million to the program, along with the authority's matching fund. It has provided training for hospice ambassadors among others.
