Israel offers Gaza truce extension
(08-07 10:25)

Israel has confirmed that it's ready to extend the 72-hour ceasefire that was brokered by Egypt after a month of fighting in Gaza.
Talks about a longer truce has been continuing in Cairo. An Israeli official said Israel "has expressed its readiness to extend the truce under its current terms" beyond a Friday deadline for the three-day deal that took effect on Tuesday.

But a senior official from the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, said no extension to the ceasefire had been agreed.

Israel withdrew ground forces from tiny, densely populated Gaza on Tuesday morning and started a 72-hour, Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Hamas as a first step towards a long-term deal. --RTHK
