|South Korea factories in reverse gear
South Korea's industrial output fell in September, with labor disputes limiting production at leading automakers, government data showed.
Production in the mining, manufacturing, gas and electricity industries shrank 2.1 percent from a month earlier, Statistics Korea said.
The decline reversed a revised 1.6 percent on-month rise in August.
Compared with a year earlier, output in September contracted 3.6 percent.
“Despite gains in the mining, electricity and gas areas, the September industrial output fell as production in manufacturing dropped,'' Statistics Korea said.
Automobile output plunged 18.6 percent from the previous month as the country's largest automakers Hyundai and Kia were hit by labor disputes.
The economy expanded 3.3 percent on-year in the third quarter, accelerating a 2.3 percent gain in the April-June period.—AFP
