|Chinese slam racist Aussie game 'Whore of The Orient'
Chinese in Australia have condemned an Australian computer game called Whore of The Orient, produced with state government funding
The game was developed by Team Bondi and received cash support from the New South Wales government, media reports in Australia said.
Lo Jieh-yung, City of Monash councillor told the Sydney Morning Herald he aims to file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission for racial vilification.
The NSW state government announced its support for Whore of the Orient on June 21, the paper said.
Lo said the game was "attempt to disgrace Chinese culture, history and traditions.''
A spokesman for Screen NSW said the name of the game Whore of the Orient "is an historical nickname for the city of Shanghai.''
Lo said: "It's the use of the word `Orient', more even than the word `whore,' that is the issue. The O-word is very similar to the N-word for African-American communities. It's a 19th century racial-colonial conception and it's especially painful for older people in the communities. That was a very bad time in China, and people don't want or need to have that dragged up.''
