|Hospital Authority steps in to solve hospital row
The Hospital Authority has decided to step in to settle a dispute between a disgruntled heart specialist and the Prince of Wales Hospital.
The row, sparked by the suspension of Professor Yu Cheuk-man, has evolved into what appears to be a management issue of the hospital.
An independent committee under the Hospital Authority will be set up to look into the row, RTHK reports.
The acting Health Secretary Sophie Chan Siu-chee says a high-level committee was needed in the wake of the controversy's development over the past few days.
The heart specialist, Yu, and the Chief Executive of Prince of Wales Hospital, Fung Hong, have crossed swords on the airwaves over the past two days.
But former Secretary for Health, York Chow Yat-ngor, says the bickering should stop.
Chow, who's now chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission, says the stand-off did not appear to be over just one doctor, but rather a larger issue inside the hospital.
