Volkswagen recalls 384,181 Golf, Audi, Passat and other models in China over gearbox defects

German carmaker Volkswagen said it will recall 384,181 vehicles including Golf, Passat, Sagitar, and Touran models following orders by China’s quality authorities to fix defective gearboxes.
The gearbox problems were revealed by a China Central Television investigative program on corporate malpractice on Friday. .
The consumer quality watchdog, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said today the recall will start on April 2.
The recall involves models made at Volkswagen's China joint ventures and imported models, including Audi A3s built between February 2010 and June 2011, according to the watchdog.
