Consortium to build new private hospital
(03-13 19:52)

The University of Hong Kong and a consortium formed by NWS Holdings and a Singaporean firm, have bought a site in Wong Chuk Hang to build and run a private hospital. They beat two other bidders with an offer of nearly HK$1.7 billion, RTHK reports.
The new hospital will give priority to Hong Kong residents, with at least 70 percent of the beds reserved for locals.
However, another site in Tai Po, which was also designated for a private hospital, failed to attract a successful buyer. The Health Secretary, Ko Wing-man, said there had only been one bid.
Ko said the government would review the demand for private hospital services, before deciding what to do with the Tai Po plot, and two other lots in Tseung Kwan O and Lantau that had been earmarked for the same use.
