Elderly woman gets 10 years for money laundering
(03-12 12:46)

A public housing tenant has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for laundering more than HK$6.8 billion through nine Hong Kong banks.
The High Court heard that the woman, Lam Mei-ling, 61, made more than 39,000 transactions between 2002 and 2005, involving huge sums of money deposited into her account from the mainland, RTHK reports.
Judge Andrew Chan accepted that Lam was not the mastermind behind the scheme, but he said there was no doubt she was actively involved in the process.
