Families of balloon victims slam insurance company on compensation
(03-12 12:23)
Families of six Hong Kong tourists who died in last month's hot air balloon crash in Egypt have criticised China Merchants Insurance for not compensating them.
The company sold the insurance through the Professional Teachers' Union. The victims' families questioned whether experts were available at the union to clearly explain the contents of the insurance. And they queried why it covered aerial activities, such as parachuting, but excluded hot air ballooning, RTHK reports.
The families say the travel agent should also bear some responsibility as it didn't give the tourists a choice of which hot air balloon company to use. They said it was ridiculous that the tour guide left the scene once the tourists got onto the balloon.
