Jobless Australians decry tourism job campaign
(03-05 17:01)

Jobless Australians have slammed the tourism industry’s so-called ‘Best Jobs in the World’ campaign, which has been revived this year.
Just after the stunt was announced, one jobless man demanded that the job be given to Australians first, in remarks posted on the campaign’s Facebook page.
Australia’s jobless numbers increased to 659,000 as of January, as 2,000 more joined the jobless ranks.
“I'm pretty sure most Australians would be against this publicity stunt... I would love this job, just like any other Australian, and paying some foreigners $100,000 to come here for 6 months! How about giving those jobs to Australians first!'' wrote one unemployed Australian on the campaign's Facebook page.
This time six jobs are on offer – each in a different state and each coming with a six-month salary package worth A$100,000, AFP reports.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the competition was expected to appeal to youth travellers' sense of fun and adventure.
