Defects alleged in Lamma IV starboard light
(03-04 12:58)

The commission of inquiry into the Lamma ferry disaster is examining whether there were problems with the starboard light of the sunken vessel -- the Lamma IV.
Counsel for the inquiry said two wires in one of the switch boxes behind the wheelhouse of the vessel had been severed. This may have affected the performance of the light, RTHK reports.
The commission chairman, Justice Michael Lunn, asked lawyers representing Hong Kong Electric -- which operated the Lamma IV - to check if anything had been done to the box before or after the accident.
Thirty-nine people died when the vessel sank following a collision with a ferry on October 1 last year.
