Victims in Egypt being identified
(03-01 14:09)
Relatives of the Hong Kong victims killed in Tuesday's balloon disaster in Egypt have identified six of the nine bodies. They visited four Cairo hospitals with SAR government forensic experts.
Police chief inspector Eric Cheung from the disaster victims identification unit said the process had not yet been completed, but he was confident the remaining three bodies would be identified, RTHK reports.
Cheung explained that the families had provided photos and other information to help the work, but there had been some difficulties over bodies that had been badly burned.
The relatives had been due to travel to the ancient city of Luxor, where the accident happened, to pay respects to the dead, but have now postponed the trip.
It had previously been stated that it wouldn't be possible to identify the bodies until Monday -- but the Chinese ambassador to Egypt, Song Aiguo, said his embassy had asked the local authorities to speed up the process
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Tourism, Philip Yung, says Hong Kong travel agents will need to explain more clearly the risks involved in additional excursions to local travellers on overseas package tours.
