Telecoms growth powers HKT profits to HK$1.6b

HKT Trust (6823) said today net income grew 32 percent to HK$1.61 billion in the first full year since the listing of the trust in November 2011. Revenue for the year ended December 31, 2012 increased by 6 percent to HK$21.08 billion propelled by the telecom business and more gains made in the mobile business.
Earnings before interest tax and depreciation was HK$7.66 billion, up 3 percent over the previous year, the trust said.
The final distribution per share stapled unit was 21.58 HK cents, bringing the full-year distribution to 41.64 HK cents per share stapled unit (comprising 20.06 HK cents as interim and 21.58 HK cents as final distribution) for 2012.
The total payment to holders of share stapled units is HK$2.62 billion.
Telecom business revenue increased by 6 percent to HK$18.36 billion and EBITDA increased by 2 percent to HK$7.12 billion.
Mobile revenue grew 25 percent to HK$2.46 billion. Subscriber numbers increased to 1.64 million at the end of December 2012, up 7 percent from a year earlier.
