Top court rejects girl's abode case bid
(02-26 14:22)

The Court of Final Appeal has rejected a bid by a locally born girl of non-resident mainland parents to be included with two Filipino workers seeking right of abode in Hong Kong.
The court ruled that arguments which her lawyers intended to submit had been adequately covered in the case involving the Filipinos, RTHK reports.
The girl's lawyer said there were many children in the same category. He said their voices should also be heard, as the government would ask the court to consider seeking clarification from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of its 1999 interpretation on who is eligible for right of abode.
The government earlier said the clarification would resolve the right of abode issue relating to all groups, including foreign domestic helpers and children born to non-resident mainlanders.
