New lawyer to represent ferry captain
(02-26 12:07)

The captain of the Sea Smooth, Lai Sai-ming, has told the Lamma ferry disaster inquiry that he has assigned another lawyer to advise him.
Lai stopped giving evidence yesterday after the lawyer for his company, Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry, withdrew from representing him and his crew because of a potential conflict of interest, RTHK reports.
The inquiry heard that he would meet his new lawyer this evening. The commission chairman, Justice Michael Lunn, instructed him to remain at the hearing and listen to the evidence given by other crew members.
Thirty nine people aboard a vessel belonging to Hong Kong Electric died last October when it sank following a collision with the Sea Smooth.
