China must step up financial checks: think tank
(02-25 19:05)
A top mainland think tank says Beijing should strengthen its monitoring of the financial assets of senior officials.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences acknowledged that the country had put more effort into preventing and combating corruption in the past year, but suggested it should do more to improve the asset declaration system, RTHK reports.
It proposed introducing extra regulations to cover the "commercial activities" carried out by the relatives of officials. The academy also called for more transparency after some government departments refused to provide information for its research.
