Govt surplus expected at HK$57b

The accountancy firm Ernst & Young says it expects the government budget to show a surplus of HK$57 billion when it's revealed next week.
The financial secretary had planned for a deficit of HK$3.4 billion last February. The firm says the surplus will lift Hong Kong's total fiscal reserves to around HK$1.3 trillion, RTHK reports.
However, Agnes Chan -- regional managing partner for Ernst and Young in Hong Kong and Macau -- said that any relief measures in next week's budget should be modest and temporary, and tilted toward supporting growth.
