Public housing tenants to face tighter checks
(02-20 14:46)

The government is to step up efforts to identify tenants in public rental housing whose monthly income and assets exceed the permissible limits.
Housing Secretary Anthony Cheung Bing-leung says an additional 30 experienced estate staff will be making 5,000 more checks of tenants' finances, and there will a two-week special operation targeting blocks in six districts, RTHK reports.
He says they will also intensify patrols at estates where abuse of the income limit is common. Cheung told Legco over the last five years, 400 flats had been taken back from tenants who had abused the system.
