Big decline in China mothers crowding hospitals
(02-20 13:33)
The government says the number of mainland pregnant women turning up at local hospitals to give birth has dropped substantially since the implementation of the 'zero quota' policy.
The Undersecretary for Food and Health, Sophia Chan Siu-chee, said there were just 22 such cases last month, compared to an average of 150 a month in late 2011, RTHK reports.
Chan said the authorities would continue to liaise with their mainland counterparts to keep the problem under control.
