(02-19 13:05)

Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying has pledged that Hong Kong will no longer blindly strive for growth in visitor numbers, but will try to ensure that future tourism development is sustainable. Leung said this would be the ethos underlying policy-making in the area, RTHK reports.
He said the mass influx of tourists -- chiefly from the mainland -- was becoming a problem. His comments followed Ocean Park having to suspend ticket sales because of the huge number of visitors during the Chinese New Year holiday. Disneyland also attracted record attendances.
But Hong Kong Tourism Board chairman James Tien Pei-chun said discussions must be now focused how to avoid local tourism being dragged Hong Kong-China conflict.
