S Korean lawmakers vote to condemn North
(02-14 12:39)

The South Korean parliament adopted a resolution Thursday strongly condemning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's nuclear test earlier this week.
"We cannot tolerate North Korea's nuclear test, a provocative act that threatens lives and safety of the people of South Korea," the resolution, adopted during a plenary session, read "The North will be held responsible for all consequences."
The lawmakers also urged the DPRK to dismantle all nuclear programs and return to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, vowing to make "bipartisan" efforts to seek a fundamental solution to the nuclear standoff, Xinhua news agency reports.
The move came two days after the DPRK said it successfully detonated a nuclear device using a "miniaturized, lightweight atomic bomb," prompting widespread global condemnation.
Among the 185 lawmakers who voted, 183 supported the resolution. Two abstained.
