CE alleges newspaper libel

The Hong Kong Economic Journal has confirmed that Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying sent it a solicitor's letter over an allegedly defamatory commentary it published last month.
The letter asked the newspaper not to repeat the accusations, RTHK reports
The article -- written by commentator Joseph Lian Yi-zheng -- referred to accusations made by a former leading supporter of Leung, Lew Mon-hung. Lian said he was shocked by the move and believed Leung was being irrational.
In a statement, the Economic Journal said the commentary was published in the public interest, but it apologised for any unfair conclusions it may have led people to make.
Legal experts said Leung's action would threaten freedom of speech.
Leung did not comment on the paper's statement.
