Freedom of speech threatened: legal expert
(02-07 11:00)
Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying set up a bad precedent as he issued a letter through his attorney to Hong Kong Economic Journal, said Johannes Chan Man-mun, the Dean of the Faculty of Law for the University of Hong Kong.
Leung accused columnist Joseph Lian Yi-zheng of libel.
Chan said Leung on one hand dodged questions about his integrity, but on the other hand tried to pressure media.
Chan said civil servants have no right to accuse others of libel. And what Leung did would threaten freedom of speech and expression in Hong Kong.
