Tighter checks on traders during CNY
(02-06 13:20)
The Immigration department says it will step up enforcement action against suspected parallel traders during the Lunar New Year holiday.
It says an additional 100 officers will be deployed at different border control points, RTHK reports.
A senior immigration officer said he expected more than 8 million people would cross the border between February 8 and 17 -- an increase of 11 percent on last year.
He also said about 2,000 parallel traders had been refused entry since September last year.
