HKE manager not suspicious on ship plan, inquiry hears
(02-05 19:53)

A marine manager of Hongkong Electric told the inquiry today that he completely trusted the shipbuilder even he noticed there was an opening instead of a watertight door towards the stern of the Lamma IV which sank near Lamma Island October 1 last year.
Cheoy Lee Shipyards lawyer questioned Tang Wan-on why he failed to notice the absence of an watertight door when Lamma IV was built. Tang said he was aware of the opening between the steering gear room and tank room at the stern of Lamma IV. He said he trusted Cheoy Lee for its good reputation. He added that the building plan had already been approved by the Marine Department, so he had no suspicion.
