Old age allowance details announced

More than 290,000 eligible elderly will be able to collect HK$11,400 -- equivalent to old age living allowances for five months -- in April, the Social Welfare Department announced.
Patrick Nip Tak-kuen, director of the department, said the measure aims to assist elderly of age over 65 to maintain living standard. The application process has been simplified for the the elderly to obtain the payment as soon as possible.
The thresholds remain the same those of "fruit money" -- for a single elderly person, the monthly income limit is HK$6,660 while the asset limit is HK$186,000; for a married couple, the monthly income limit is HK$10,520 while the asset limit is HK$281,000.
