(Super Bowl) Niner Culliver called ignorant for gay rant
(01-31 10:25)

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver has made some disparaging comments about gays, saying that they would not be welcome on his National Football League team.
American radio show host Artie Lange asked Culliver during Tuesday's Media Day if any members of the 49ers were homosexual or if he had ever been approached by “gay guys,’’ AFP reports
“I don't do the gay guys man, I don't do that,’’ Culliver said. “Nah, we ain't got no gay people on the team. They gotta get up outta here if they do. Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah, can't be in the locker room.’’
Lange then asked, “So, they'd have to keep it a secret?’’
“Yeah,’’ Culliver said. “Come out 10 years later after that.’’
The 49ers condemned the comments and said they had spoken to Culliver.
“The San Francisco 49ers reject the comments that were made yesterday, and have addressed the matter with Chris,'' the news release said. “There is no place for discrimination within our organization at any level. We have and always will proudly support the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community.’’
Human Rights Campaign vice president Fred Sainz blasted Culliver for his “homophobic’’ comments and demanded an apology.
“Chris Culliver's comments represent the height of ignorance and the type of homophobic banter that professional athletes rarely use any more,’’ said Sainz.
“Chris Culliver's irrational rant against LGBT people is reprehensible.
“Culliver should recognize how far most of his fellow athletes have come on this issue and apologize immediately.''
It is interesting to point out that San Francisco has the highest percentage of gays (15.4 percent) of any city in the United States.
