Man-made DNA to store information
(01-24 16:46)

Researchers in Britain have successfully encoded information into strands of man-made DNA in a technique which could radically change how information is stored.
The team converted a megabyte of data, including Shakespeare's Sonnets, into the alphabet of DNA code which was then turned into physical DNA -- a tiny amount of freeze-dried powder. It could be read with complete accuracy, RTHK reports.
The scientists claim a small cup full of DNA could hold the equivalent of one-hundred-million hours of hi-definition video and the costs of storage are minimal.
