Civil right icon slips up, blessing wrong US president
(01-22 10:09)

If it all goes wrong for President Barack Obama in his second term we will know who to blame: civil rights icon Myrlie Evers-Williams, who blessed his successor, the 45th president, by mistake.
“America, we are here, our nation's capital, on this day, January the 21st, 2013, the inauguration of our 45th president, Barack Obama,’’ Evers-Williams said as she gave the official blessing at the ceremony, AFP reports.
Unfortunately for 79-year-old Evers-Williams, widow of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers, Obama is actually the 44th president and stays that way even after winning a second term.
“We come at this time to ask blessings upon our leaders, the president, vice president, members of Congress, all elected and appointed officials of the United States of America,’’ Evers-Williams said in her invocation.
Despite being the 44th president, Obama is only the 43rd person to hold the job as Grover Cleveland served as both the 22nd and the 24th president. Benjamin Harrison's one term was sandwiched between Cleveland's two.
Evers-Williams is a distinguished scholar at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi.
