Hang Seng directionless, Shanghai down
(01-22 09:51)

Stocks in Hong Kong opened flat today, with Wall Street closed for a public holiday and as dealers await the outcome of a closely-watched Bank of Japan policy meeting later in the day. The benchmark Hang Seng Index edged up 5.47 points to 23,596.38, AFP reports.
In Shanghai, shares were down 0.35 percent in early trade on light profit-taking, but sentiment remained positive on the back of an economic recovery, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 8.21 points to 2,320.01.
