Egypt train crash kills 19
(01-15 13:26)
Nineteen people were killed and 107 others injured when a military train carrying young recruits to an army camp derailed in a Cairo suburb.
The military train was on its way to an army camp with conscripted youth when it derailed in the Giza neighborhood of Badrashin, RTHK reports.
More than 60 ambulances were dispatched to the scene to ferry the injured and the dead to hospitals.
Egypt's roads and railways have a poor safety record, and Egyptians have long complained that successive governments have failed to enforce even basic safeguards, leading to a string of deadly crashes.
Last November more than 50 people, mostly children, were killed when a train slammed into a school bus at a rail crossing south of Cairo, further inflaming public anger at Egypt's shoddy transport network.
