Investigation on death of 9-year-old girl

The Centre for Health Protection is investigation a fatal case involving a 9-year-old girl.
The patient, who has a good health record, had symptoms of fever, epigastric pain and vomiting on January 5. She was admitted to the paediatric ward of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in the morning of January 7. Her condition got worse rapidly after admission and she died on the same day.
The provisional clinical diagnosis was acute myocarditis.
She was tested negative for influenza and enterovirus. Lab tests for other pathogens of hers are still in progress.
The girl did not travel elsewhere recently. The case has been referred to the Coroner.
